Police are investigating the death of a man who was shot dead after getting food at a curry shop in Tacarigua.

He has been identified as Marvin Scott of Picton Road, Laventille.

Police were told at just after 3 pm, Scott went to the shop to buy food, and when he left he was approached by a gunman and shot.

Residents heard gunshots, and when they checked they found him suffering from gunshot wounds, lying on the roadway.

Police and emergency services were alerted and he was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex. Doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

When Newsday visited the scene at 4 pm on Sunday, police crime scene investigators were processing the scene as the Eastern Main Road was cordoned off.

Traffic was diverted off the Eastern Main Road while the investigators looked for clues and evidence.

Tacarigua residents said they did not recognise Scott, and believed he was from outside the area. They said Tacarigua was not normally a place where violent and fatal crimes were heard of.

"Sometimes you might see two pipers fighting, other times it may be two drunk people cussing at each other. But in the morning everyone is fine and no one dies," a resident said.

The murder toll for the year now stands at 290.
