Headmistress of Malkarnem GHS bags National Award for Teachers

The south Goa district collector, Ajit Roy honoured Sindhu Prabhu Desai Nayak, the headmistress of the Government high school, Malkarnem, Quepem for her dedicated service in the field of education on Saturday, which was observed as Teacher’s day.

She was accorded the national award for teachers and is among the 47 teachers across the country to win the prestigious award. The district collector presented her a medal and a certificate.  

It was a national programme conducted online and the respective district collectors have presented the awards.  Nayak dedicated her services to the entire high school team.

Nayak is the headmistress of Malkarnem GHS since 2016 and had won two national awards earlier.  Shikshak Vikas Parishad had acknowledged her efforts and awarded her. 

Sindhu Prabhu Desai is the youngest recipient of this prestigious award from Goa.

Prabhu Dessai has an excellent academic record. She has done her Masters in Chemistry with Bachelors in Education. She is a Gold Medalist in Chemistry from Goa University. She has around fourteen years of experience in the field of Education. She has taught in some of the famous colleges of Goa like St Xavier’s College, Dhempe College and Government College Quepem.

She has worked as a senior subject matter expert in chemistry and an English reviewer in Pearson Education Limited, a multinational Educational Software Company in Bangalore.

She topped Goa Public Service Commission Examination conducted by Government of Goa and was appointed as lecturer in chemistry in Government Higher Secondary, Sanguem.

Out of six years in the higher secondary, she was felicitated for three academic years for obtaining 100 per cent result in chemistry.

She has done extensive research in the field of Education and has been the resource person in subjects like, ‘Career guidance,’ ‘Women Empowerment’ and ‘Leadership.’ She was promoted as the headmistress of Government High School, Malkarnem in
2016.

Her research paper on “Role of leader in transforming the school” was selected to be presented for the National Conference organised by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training), New Delhi in 2020.

Prabhu Dessai said, “I am elated to receive the National Award. It is an overwhelming experience for me. I am glad that my dedicated efforts as a team leader have won nationwide acclaim.”
