Vasco: The Vasco traffic cell has sent a letter to the Mormugao municipal council (MMC) to provide land to dump scrapped vehicles which lying abandoned at various parts of the town.
The abandoned scrapped or junk vehicles have become an eyesore for people in and around Vasco. Several vehicles, basically four-wheelers are lying abandoned, causing a nuisance in various parts of the town. The Vasco traffic cell had earlier launched a drive against such scrapped vehicles and had removed nearly 17 four-wheelers. They have later been dumped at the old fish market at Bogda.
Vasco traffic cell PI Sudesh Narvekar said, “The Vasco traffic cell has sent a letter to the MMC, requesting them to provide us land in order to dump the scrapped vehicles which are lying near the roadside in various parts of the town. We have inspected an open site near Hotel Taniya at Maimollem which can be utilised for dumping of scrapped vehicles. However, there is no positive response from the municipal authorities till date.”
He maintained, “We have inspected various areas in the town in order to take note of scrapped vehicles, as it poses a risk to other vehicles and becomes an obstruction for pedestrians. During the course of inspection, we have found that there are about 21 such scrapped vehicles lying near the roadside. We felt that these vehicles need to be shifted to some other place and due to which we require an open space for its dumping.”
“Accordingly, we wrote a letter to the MMC for providing a piece of land in order to dump the scrapped vehicles. Earlier, MMC has provided us land for dumping of scrapped vehicles at old fish market at Bogda wherein we have shifted a total of 17 scrapped vehicles, making the roads clear in various parts of the town”, added Narvekar.
“We cannot shift the scrapped or junk vehicles from the roadside in absence of land. We should first make arrangement for land so that vehicles can be moved without any hesitation” he said.
