Three days after the report of 75 staffers of Amrik Sukhdev and Garam Dharam dhabas in Murthal, Sonipat, testing positive for coronavirus came to light, the district administration has served showcause notices to the two eateries for allegedly not adhering to Covid-19 guidelines.
Sixty-five workers at Amrik-Sukhdev and 10 at Garam Dharam dhaba, on National Highway-44 at Murthal in Haryana's Sonipat, had tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week following which both the eateries were sealed on till further orders.
Both famous eateries are located in Sonipat's Murthal and nearly 50 km away from Delhi, and on regular days a large number of people from Delhi-NCR visit these joints for 'parathas' and other delicacies.
Sonipat Deputy Commissioner Shyam Lal Poonia along with a team of officers and police visited Murthal to take stock of the situation at the dhabas on Saturday evening and directed owners to maintain the consumer register.
The Sonipat district administration has launched a massive contact-tracing drive to track those who have visited the two eateries recently.
Samples of staffers at Pahalwan and Jhilmil dhabas, that are situated near Sukhdev and Garam Dharam, have also been collected for tests.
The deputy commissioner had said that in wake of the coronavirus pandemic, all the eateries had already been directed to maintain a register to record the number of visitors and their contact details.
"On the basis of these, we are trying to contact as many as possible who have eaten food at these two dhabas during the past few days," he said.
Sonipat Chief Medical Officer Dr JS Punia said the majority of those infected at the Sukhdev dhaba were workers who had recently come from Bihar.
"They all live in a colony near the dhaba and we are tracing and testing all of their local contacts. Moreover, we have also informed health authorities in Bihar about this and as the infected persons could have come into contact with many there as well," the CMO told news agency PTI over phone.
Haryana's Sonipat on Sunday reported 129 fresh cases of coronavirus, which took the district's total tally to 5,186. The district currently has 1,043 active cases.
