Taking cognizance of the recent scuffle with a bank employee, the Finance Ministry said that the government is committed to protecting bank employees. It said that prompt action will be taken against the person involved in the incident. There were reports of a scuffle in Maharashtra's Wardha district earlier this week with an employee of the State Bank of India (SBI).

Earlier in June, a police constable in Surat, Gujarat allegedly misbehaved with a female employee of Canara Bank. Santoshi Kumari of the Canara Bank's Saroli branch was allegedly abused and raped for not printing the passbook.

The Financial Services Department said in a tweet, "The incident of a scuffle with Amol Bedham, a bank employee of the Wardha Department, is shameless." Senior bank officials are in touch with local authorities, who have assured full cooperation. Rapid action will be taken as per law. The government is committed to protecting bank employees.

Ashwani Rana, vice-president of the National Organization of Bank Works ã said that the number of such incidents is increasing, but the top management of banks and government have done little to provide a sense of safety and security at the workplace. He said that in view of such incidents, there is a need to deal with them rapidly to create trust among the banker's community.
