Representative imageKALYAN: Kalyan-Dombivli, the second worst area in Mumbai Metropolitan Region after Mumbai and highest in Thane district, on Thursday crossed 30,000 Covid-19 patients.
The twin city since Ganesh festival again saw slight rise in Covid-19 patients and it took only 14 days to add 5,000 Covid-19 patients, while last month it had taken 20 days to add 5,000 coronavirus patients.
On Thursday, the twin city reported 405 new patients taking tally of patients to 30,054, including 656 deaths so far.
It has been found that in the twin city, after many relaxations have been given, people are not following social distancing norms and now civic as well as police department are also not taking any action against such people, which has led to the rise in Covid-19 patients.
If health data is to be believed, then the city on August 21 had crossed 25,000 patients and with the time it had taken 20 days to add 5,000 patients against earlier speed of 9 and 14 days for 5,000 patients in July.
The health department said that the rise in Covid-19 patients is the result of increasing testing in the twin city and people not following social distancing norms.
Dr Pratibha Panpatil, health officer of KDMC, said, "The rise in patients are result of high numbers of testing in the city and we have also observed that since many relaxations have been given after patients were under control, now many people are not following social distancing norms which have also led to rise the count."
Dr Pratibha further said, "We have developed health facilities to deal with such a situation, which was expected during more relaxations, but we would like to appeal to the citizens to follow norms for their own safety."
The KDMC, so far, have conducted 86,319 testing in 18 lakh-populated twin city, including 65,106 RT PCR test and 21,213 antigen test. The relieving thing is that the twin city has improved its recovery rate up to 87 % as presently out of total 30,054 patients, 26,112 patients have got cured, while the remaining 3,286 patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals.
