NEW DELHI: Donations by PM Modi to public causes from his personal savings and proceeds from auction of the gifts received by him exceed Rs 103 crore, sources said on Thursday. His latest donation is of Rs 2.3 lakh to the initial corpus of
PM Cares Fund, set up in the wake of the
coronavirus outbreak, to provide relief in case of public health emergency.
“PM Modi has a long legacy of contributing to public causes ranging from girl child education to clean Ganga to welfare of underprivileged. These donations have now exceeded Rs 103 crore,” said an official. In 2019, Modi donated Rs 21 lakh from his personal savings to the corpus fund for welfare of sanitation workers of
Kumbh Mela.
On receiving the
Seoul Peace Prize in South Korea, he had announced that the entire prize money of Rs 1.3 crore prize money will go for “Namami Gange”, the project to clean the Ganga. Modi had received the award last year for his contribution to international cooperation and fostering global economic growth. Recently, during an auction of mementos received by Modi during his PM tenure, Rs 3.4 crore were collected, which are also being donated to the cause of “Namami Gange” project.
As Gujarat CM, Modi had donated Rs 21 lakh for education of the daughters of government employees.
