PANAJI: Admissions to direct second year engineering and pharmacy degree programmes will take place online this year, with the directorate of technical education (DTE) set to accept applications from September 7-18. Seat allotment will also take place online and the entire process is likely to be completed by the first week of October.
Ten per cent of seats for engineering and pharmacy degree programmes are kept aside for direct admissions in the second year of the course. Diploma holders in engineering and pharmacy programmes and BSc graduates are eligible to apply for these. The provision gives them an opportunity to upgrade their educational qualifications.

Until last year, application forms were accepted in person by the DTE. But this year, candidates have to email all the required documents to the directorate. After scrutinising the applications, the directorate will display the list of eligible students online. Once the students complete the rest of the documentation, the DTE will release the merit list, on the basis of which allotment of seats to the second year degree seats will take place.
While in-person admission rounds were held earlier, officials said no such rounds will be conducted this year.
“Until last year, students were asked their seat preference during the admission rounds. But this year, they have been provided with a form where they will have to state their course preference at the application stage itself. The entire allotment of seats will take place online and no student will have to visit in person,” said an official. The DTE wants to avoid crowding usually caused during the admissions rounds, in view of the pandemic.
Other than the 10% engineering and pharmacy degree seats kept aside for direct admissions to second year, any seats left vacant in the degree programme at the time of first year admissions are also made available to diploma and BSc degree holders for direct admissions.
