Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar has been admitted to a private hospital in Jayanagar in Bengaluru after he had fever, according to ANI. "I have been admitted to a private hospital in Jayanagar, Bengaluru once again after experiencing fever," he said. He was discharged from a hospital after he recovered from Covid-19 ad tested negative earlier this week.
Andhra Govt Sets up 'Arogya Mitras' Help Desks | Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the officials to recruit 'Arogya Mitras' help desks set up at all Arogyasri hospitals across the state. The CM said that the help desk at all the Arogyasri hospitals should play a significant role in helping patients get the best treatment in the state.
Punjab to Stop Affixing Posters Outside Homes of Covid-19 Patients | Coronavirus patients in home isolation in Punjab will no longer have to suffer the fear and stigma of social isolation resulting from posters affixed at the entrance of their homes. In a step towards mitigating the stigma attached to the pandemic, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh rescinded his government's earlier decision of putting posters outside the houses of Covid-19 patients under home isolation or quarantine.
Don't Postpone Reappear Exams: CBSE to SC | The CBSE opposed in the Supreme Court a plea for postponement of reappear exams for Class 10 and 12, telling the court that all health safety measures are in place for holding the exams this month amid the coronavirus pandemic. The CBSE's counsel said that the number of examination centres has been increased from 575 to 1,278, and that only 12 students will sit in a classroom for reappear exams in view of the social distance norm.
Russian Vaccine Safe: Lancet | The Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, approved by Russia last month, has been shown to elicit antibody response with no serious adverse events in small human trials, according to preliminary results published in The Lancet journal on Friday. Results from early-phase non-randomised vaccine trials in a total of 76 people show that two formulations of the vaccine have a good safety profile detected over 42 days, and induce antibody responses in all participants within 21 days.

Widespread Vaccines Not Expected before Mid-2021: WHO | The World Health Organization does not expect widespread vaccinations against Covid-19 until the middle of next year, a spokesperson said, stressing the importance of rigorous checks on their effectiveness and safety. None of the candidate vaccines in advanced clinical trials so far has demonstrated a “clear signal” of efficacy at the level of at least 50% sought by the WHO, spokesperson Margaret Harris said. Cases Were Rising Even During Lockdown: Delhi Health Min | More and more patients from outside Delhi seeking admission here is a concern. 30% of beds in govt hospitals and 50 to 70 per cent in private hospitals are occupied from patients outside Delhi. Even when there was lockdown, cases were rising. Point is to wear masks, even when Delhi is prepared for a surge in full Unlock mode.
Situation in Delhi Under Control: Health Min | Cases are rising because of aggressive testing. It is possible that within a week/10 days or a little more, case count will start coming down. As of now situation of beds in Delhi is under control, but with patients from outside Delhi taking admissions here, we may have to increase bed capacity. Students across the country have called for a postponement in JEE and NEET exams because of coronavirus.
India has once again recorded over 83,000 cases in a period of 24 hours, according to health ministry data as 83,341 confirmed infections were reported from across the country till 8 am on Friday, just shy of the peak of 83,883 cases that were reported on Thursday. The number of deaths reported in this period were 1,096. India has so far recorded over 39.3 lakh cases and 68,472 deaths, the third highest in the world on both counts.
The COVID-19case fatality rate has declined to 1.74 per cent in the country. There are 8,31,124 active coronavirus cases in the country, which account for 21.11 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated. India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and the 30-lakh mark on August 23. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 4,66,79,145 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country as on September 3, including 11,69,765 on Thursday.
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has warned of the formation of “Onam Clusters” of coronavirus in the state because of increased contact among people during these festive days. "The next two weeks are crucial as we may see Onam clusters being formed in the state due to increased outdoor public activity and travel during the festival time. We can expect a hike in Covid cases," Vijayan said. Kerala has a total of 79,625 COVID 19 cases, with 315 deaths. The active cases currently in the state is 21,516.
The government on Thursday, meanwhile, defended its decision to open up various economic activities amid rising COVID-19 cases, saying it firmly believes that "while lives are important, livelihoods are equally important".
India had posted a record single-day spike of 83,883 infections on Thursday. The government said it has adopted a graded approach under 'Unlock' and to open up various economic activities, secretary in the health ministry, Rajesh Bhushan, told a press conference. So far, the Centre has announced four phases of 'Unlock' since June 8 to resume commercial activities.
Asked why the government is opening up different economic activities when there is a spike in daily positive cases, he said, "There is no doubt about it. But then these numbers have to be seen in the context of the total population of India. We are the second most populous country in the world."
The Union home ministry on August 29 had issued 'Unlock 4' guidelines under which metro trains will be allowed to resume services from September 7 in a graded manner, while political, social and religious congregations of up to 100 people will be permitted from September 21.
However, schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will remain closed for students till September 30, with some relaxations for students of classes 9 to 12. The home ministry had also said that state governments shall not impose any local lockdown outside COVID-19 containment zones without prior consultation with the central government.
