Boy dies after falling off speeding truck near Tirupur

COIMBATORE: An eight-year-old boy died after falling off a moving truck on Thursday night at Moolanur in Tirupur district.
The deceased has been identified as Shankar alias Ganeshan, son of Sathish, 29.
The Moolanur police registered a case against truck driver V Paraman, 65.
Police said Sathish, who worked in a brick kiln unit at Thadagam in Coimbatore, had four sons. While two of his sons lived with him at his work place, two others – Shankar and Ponnar,7, were residing in their native place – Vadipatti in Madurai district.
Sathish decided to bring Shankar and Ponnar to Coimbatore.
The police said that Sathish arranged for a truck from a brick kiln at Vadipatti, as intra state bus services were not available.
Sathish, Shankar and Ponnar sat on the front seat in truck driver’s cabin. Shankar, who was sitting near the door, fell asleep. At 2am, when the truck reached Koneripatti near Dharapuram, Shankar fell off the vehicle and was run over by the same truck.
While Sathish was asleep, truck driver Paraman failed to notice the accident. When they reached Sulur in Coimbatore district, Sathish woke up and realised that Shankar was missing.
They informed Sulur police and started to search for the boy.
In Moolanur, they noticed an ambulance carrying a dead body. On checking, they found Shankar, who was already dead.
The boy’s body was taken to Dharapuram Government Hospital for postmortem.
