Kota District to turn into a star attraction

Published on : Friday, September 4, 2020

For financial development, growth in local jobs acts as one of the main drivers and Kota district is no exception in this case. Even though the district is comparatively flourishing within Rajasthan with an approximate per capita GDP of Rs. 30, 0001 and housing a good number of coaching services, mining and manufacturing industry, it has encountered several tough situations, particularly with the decline of mining, rising regulatory obstacles and global competition.

Also, the recent pandemic has influenced the coaching sector negatively which is mainly offline and is primarily dependent on the students from adjoining states like UP, MP, Haryana, Bihar, etc. Local businessmen, investors, politicians and public are relying heavily on turning Kota as a major tourist hub at par with Jaipur, Ranthambore, Udaipur and Jodhpur. The main pillar of their hopes is development potential of the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR).

This Tiger Reserve back in 2013 was proclaimed as a national sanctuary and encompasses approximately 800 sqkms. With just 40 kms from Kota city centre, MHTR provides huge opportunity for the city to turn into a key attraction. Having Dhok forest and grassland, for the most part, this tiger reserve runs between two parallel hills. It is home to several Sambhar, Cheetal, Neelgai, Sloth-bear, Jungle Cat, Leopard, Black-buck, Wild boar, Jackal, Hyena, Wolf, Peacock and a wide range of other exotic wildlife. At present, within an enclosure, there are two relocated tigers. Arrangements are in the process to kick-start eco-tourism in the protected area as according to the norms and guidelines. Also, it comprises the Chambal River. It houses the endangered Marsh crocodile and Gharial, along with other endangered turtle species and the Gangetic dolphin and Smooth-cotted Otter.
