CBSE Compartment exam likely to be conducted by September end, Board tells SC
A three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjiv Khanna will hear the plea filed on behalf of over two lakh students.

NEW DELHI: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it is likely to conduct compartment examination for students of Classes 10 & 12 by September end, reports ANI. CBSE also told that examination centres have been increased to 1,278.
A three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjiv Khanna considered the plea filed against CBSE's decision to conduct compartment examinations for class 10 and 12.

* Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) tells Supreme Court that it is likely to conduct compartment examination for students of Classes 10 & 12 by September end & examination centres have been increased to 1,278. (ANI)
* The next hearing will be on September 10.
* SC Directs CBSE to file affidavit stipulating scheme, dates and details.
* "We have taken a decision that in a class where 40 students could sit, now only 12 will sit. We are taking all precautions." — CBSE informed SC.
* The petition was filed on behalf of around 2,37,849 students who were placed in the compartment category after CBSE announced the board exam results, based on an alternative evaluation method.
* The primary concern raised by the students is that it will be impossible for the Board to hold compartment exams safely amid the pandemic.
* The petitioners fear that holding compartment exams now would be late as college admissions are drawing to an end.
* A notice issued by CBSE on its official website on August 6 reads "CBSE vide affidavit dated 25.6.2020 in the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India has stated that candidates whose result has been declared based on the assessment scheme in the examinations scheduled from 1st July 2020 to 15th July 2020 will be allowed to appear in the optional examinations to improve their performance if they wish so. However, the marks obtained by a candidate in these optional examinations will be treated as final for those who have opted to take these examinations."
* In the notice CBSE also said that it will hold compartment examination by following the detailed Standard Operating Procedures keeping in view the Covid-19 pandemic.
