A militant was killed in an operation in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Friday.

“A firefight is on after the evacuation of civilians from the area. One officer was injured and is stable. One terrorist has been eliminated,” said an Army spokesperson.

At least three militants are believed to be in Yadipora village of Baramulla’s Pattan area.

Sources said a policeman was also injured in the exchange of fire. He was shifted to Srinagar.

An official said the joint operation by the police, the Army’s 29 RR and the CRPF “continues and the area has been cordoned off completely”.

The gunfight erupted on Friday morning when a search party of the security forces was fired upon by militants.
