Final year exams likely from 3rd week of Sept: Anna University
The university said it is planning to hold exams in the third week of September.

CHENNAI: Following the government announcement on final year exams, Anna University on Wednesday asked around 500 engineering colleges to begin preparations for in-person exams. The university said it is planning to hold exams in the third week of September.
Students from different parts of the state would have the option of writing exams near their native places, sources said.
The university was preparing for an online exam so students can take tests from their current locations. But, the higher education department said exams will be held offline following the relaxation of lockdown in the state.
“As per the directions of the government, we are preparing for the conduct of end semester examinations for final year students during the third week of September so that the exams can be completed before this month,” the controller of examinations said in a circular to the regional officers.
The circular also asked for details such as the maximum number of students to be accommodated in each zone with the exemption of colleges functioning as Covid care centres and reducing the number of students in halls from 25 to 12 to maintain social distancing.
University sources said the exam centres would be arranged in engineering colleges located near students’ residences. For instance, a student from Coimbatore enrolled in a Chennai college would be allotted an exam centre in Coimbatore.
On Thursday, the higher education department conducted a meeting of vice-chancellors to discuss the in-person exams.
“It was decided to hold the final semester exam for three hours and students from outside the country and outside Tamil Nadu are likely to be given a choice of online exams,” a VC who took part in the meeting said.
College hostels may not be open for students coming from outside the city. “Students must come to the college daily for the exams. If they live far away, arrangements will be made for writing exams in a nearby centre,” the VC added.
The state is expected to issue common guidelines and the exam schedule in a day or two.
Some professors urged the government to allow students to opt for either online or offline exams. Due to the Covid-19 situation, many parents may not be willing to send their wards to campuses to write the exams. The state must provide all students with these options, they said.
