Police have declared a crime scene in remote far-north Queensland town after the deaths of a man and child.

Officers visited a home in Rossville, about 145 kilometres north-west of Cairns, just before 10am on Friday.

The bodies of a 46-year-old man and four-year-old child were discovered on arrival.

"A crime scene has been declared with specialist police and detectives attending," a police statement said.

Investigations are ongoing.
