The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct a compartment examination of class X and XII by the end of this month.

The board was informed during the hearing in the Supreme Court on Friday that the examination is proposed at the end of September. The court has asked the board to file a detailed affidavit in this regard by September 10.

Advocate Rupesh Kumar, appearing for the board on behalf of the board, told a bench headed by Judge AM Khanwilkar that the number of examination centers had been increased to 1278.

The advocate said before the bench, we have decided that in the class where 40 students can sit, only 12 will be seated. We are all taking precautionary steps. On being asked to examine the court, Mr. Kumar said that a notification in this regard will be issued today.

The petitioner urged that when the main examination is canceled due to corona, why the board cannot cancel the compartment examination is not clear. The petition filed on behalf of the students said that in the time of the Corona crisis, either the examination should be canceled or the students should be evaluated based on past performances. On this, the apex court had asked the board to file an affidavit. The next hearing, in this case, will be held on Thursday.

One lakh five thousand 198 students of class 10 and 87,651 students of class 12 will take part in the compartment examinations of the board. The petitioners filed a petition before the board to quash the examinations, but it was dismissed on 6 August. Petitions were filed in the court against this decision of the Board on 6 August.
