Attracting Indian tourists is of high precedence for the Gandaki provincial government of Nepal, once the travel restrictions are eased after the lockdown.
As per the latest statement from Nepal’s Tourist Minister Bikash Lamsal, the Nepal government plans to prefer Indian tourists more on their list, since they constitute a major part of Nepal’s foreign tourist arrivals.
In 2019, among total tourists visiting Nepal’s Pokhara, the City of Lakes, 40 per cent were from India. In 2018, Nepal’s foreign tourist count was 11.73 lakh, majority being from India.
Among top tourist activities in Nepal are trekking, paragliding, boating, and kayaking. Lamsal said that although their government was unable to welcome foreign tourists in 2019 due to the Corona virus, they are trying to make the state of affairs favorable for welcoming foreign tourists in the coming years.
Lamsal added that Nepal tourism is celebrating the year 2019-2022 as Tourism Year, aiming around two million tourists. The year 2021 will also be Tourism Infrastructure Improvement Year and 2022 International Tourism Year. Since tourism has suffered regarding revenue this year owing to the pandemic, Nepal is trying to make up for the losses and trying to make better efforts for the next year.
