Mumbai: 9-year-old boy dies after tree branch falls on him

The incident happened at around 1:30pm at Marwadi Chawl on Pandurang Budhkar Road, an official said.
MUMBAI: A 9-year-old boy died after a tree branch fell on him in a chawl premises at Lower Parel on Friday afternoon. The tree is on a private property and there was no complaint about it being in danger condition, said the BMC official.
The boy Samir Bosak would live in the same premises of Marwadi chawl where the incident took place, along with his family. BMC officials said that he was playing outside his house when the branch of the peepal tree fell on him. He sustained serious injuries on his chest and locals rushed him to hospital. The boy was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The BMC removed the branch from the premises after the incident. The BMC will trim the tree in a couple of days. Officials stated that since the tree was in private premises, it was the responsibility of the land owner or society member to maintain it to avoid any incident. BMC also trim such trees into private premises after receiving complaints or on request.
