TRICHY: The Trichy city police on Wednesday booked three men for fleecing a railway employee with exorbitant interest rate and kidnapping and assaulting him for not paying interest.
The police arrested one of the accused and are on a lookout for two others.
The Golden Rock police in Trichy city registered a case against money lender S Jerald of Sangiliyandapuram and his accomplices J Justin, 38, of Palakkarai and N Visu alias Viswanathan of Duraisamypuram on charges of kidnapping, wrongfully restraining, assaulting and criminally intimidating G Arumugam, 56, of Kottapattu in Trichy.
In a complaint, Arumugam stated that he was an employee at Golden Rock Railway Workshop. He borrowed Rs 35,000 at 10 % interest from Jerald in July 2019.
Arumugam said that he was paying a monthly interest of Rs 3500 to Jerald through Justin and Visu. Arumugam also admitted that he was unable to pay the interest after March 2020. Until then he paid Rs 31,500 as interest.
On August 29, Arumugam was kidnapped by Justin and Visu from western entrance of the railway workshop while he was returning home in the early hours.
Arumugam alleged that the duo intercepted him and abducted him to Jerald’s office in Thennur. He further accused Justin and Visu of assaulting him physically and demanded Rs 1.02 lakhs to settle the loan before September 20.
He was later dropped by an unidentified man at TVS toll gate area at 3pm.
The three were booked under various sections of the IPC and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Charging Exorbitant Interest Act, 2003.
The police said that they arrested Justin.
