Porsche Is Still Thinking About Launching A Two-Door Panamera

Porsche has admitted that it is still toying with the idea of launching a coupe variant of the Panamera.

Rumors about a Porsche Panamera Coupe have been swirling for the better part of a decade, with enthusiasts hopeful it could act as a spiritual successor to the Porsche 928.

While recently speaking with Australian publication Which Car, vice president for the Panamera product line, Thomas Friemuth, said the German automaker was indeed considering such a vehicle.

“We have not finally decided yet. We have been discussing this topic for several years, as you could imagine, since our competitors also have two-door cars,” he said. “We’re not finally ready yet to decide whether to do this or not.”

While a two-door variant of the Panamera could act as a fitting rival to the likes of the outgoing Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the BMW 8-Series Coupe, it’s hard not to think that, due to dwindling demand for vehicles like these, the ship may have already sailed on such a car from Porsche.

Friemuth doesn’t appear to be in any kind of hurry to make such a vehicle happen either, stating that “we [Porsche] have quite a nice two-door car in our program… it’s called 911.”

Regardless of what Porsche plans to do with a Panamera coupe, a new flagship Turbo S E-Hybrid is just around the corner. This model is expected to pair the car’s 621 hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 to an electric motor providing an additional 134 hp. With up to 750 hp on tap, it will act as the perfect rival to the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 73 Plug-In Hybrid.

Note: The Panamera Coupe renderings were independently made by Theophilus Chin and are note related to or endorsed by Porsche
