Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Wednesday appealed to party workers not to attack party offices or institutions in Kerala. Inaugurating CPM’s state-wide black day observation in Kochi, Balakrishnan said CPM is working for peace in state while Congress is trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.
“There is an organised attempt by Congress to provoke CPM workers and lead them to violence. Our workers shouldn’t fall prey to such tactics. We need to expose the rowdy gang of Congress in front of the public,” he said.
Kodiyeri alleged that the top leadership of Congress was involved in the murder of two DYFI workers at Venjaramoodu. “KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran had said Congress had no role in murders. He said the murdered youth were goons. How can someone speak like that about the murdered,” he asked.
CPM organized the protest at two lakh centres in state by adhering to social distancing norms. Only five workers attended the dharna in each centre held from 4pm to 6pm.
At Thembamoodu in Venjaramoodu where the murders took place, CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan, MLA DK Murali and DYFI state secretary AA Rahim led the protest. “We will continue the protest till all culprits are brought before law,” said Nagappan. In Thiruvananthapuram, protest was held at 1,200 centres. At Palayam, state secretariat member KN Balagopal inaugurated the protest, while at Attingal it was senior leader Anathalavattom Anandan.
Vellappally unhappy
Meanwhile, SNDP Yogam registered protest over the observance of black day on the birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru. “Observing black day on Guru jayanti day is a disrespect to Guru who is worshipped as God by lakhs of people. We are saddened by the loss of lives of two youngsters. But, the decision to observe black day on Guru Jayanti, after three days of the incident is nothing but disrespect to Guru,” said SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan.
