Almost half of all inmates in Koderma jail infected

Koderma: As many as 141 of the 296 inmates in Koderma jail tested positive for Covid-19 during an rapid antigen test (RAT) drive on Tuesday might. Jail superintendent Vijay Verma said: “We are sending their samples for RT-PCR tests for confirmation.” All the infected inmates are male.
Verma said the infected inmates have been moved into four wards designated as isolation blocks with 70 beds. “The capacity has been increased and we have converted two barracks into Covid care centres. Doctors are being posted in shifts and treatment and medical attention is being provided in as per protocols,” he said.
Koderma deputy commissioner Ramesh Gholap, who reviewed the situation the jail, said the inmates will be shifted to dedicated Covid hospitals if needed. “One of the inmate has been shifted to hospital after he complained of sore throat and breathlessness,” Gholap told TOI.
