Cinnabon opening in Westgate Mall on Friday

BROCKTON – It'll be the only Cinnabon within 50 miles of the city.

 The Westgate Mall in Brockton is celebrating a sweet addition to its lineup of stores and eateries on Friday. Cinnabon is opening as part of a new expanded joint location together with preexisting Auntie Anne's pretzel stand and the Carvel ice cream shop. The company is known for its signature cinnamon roll, a warm, pastry laced with aromatic cinnamon and covered with gooey heaps of sweet, sugary frosting.

"Cinnabon will now join the duo in an expanded footprint within the center," according to a statement from the Westgate Mall. "The menu will feature Auntie Anne’s signature fresh pretzels, Cinnabon’s classic cinnamon rolls, and Carvel ice cream, sundaes, and shakes."

When the new store opens on Friday in Brockton, it'll be the only Cinnabon in the region. The closest one to Brockton is at the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlboro. Another opened in June this year at the Holyoke Mall.

There are more than 1,200 Cinnabon bakery locations throughout the world, many of them in areas with high foot traffic, including malls, highway rest areas and airports. The Sandy Springs, Georgia-based chain was founded in 1985 in Washington state, co-owned by Focus Brands, which also owns Auntie Anne's, Carvel and Moe's Southwest Grill.

In the 1990s, a Cinnabon operated at the former Silver City Galleria mall in Taunton.

The Westgate Mall and its owner, New England Development, said Cinnabon joins other eateries at the Brockton shopping center, including Chipotle, Buffalo Wild Wings and IHOP, joining more than 65 specialty stores. One of the other most recent additions to the shopping center was DICK'S Sporting Goods, which opened about four weeks ago, after the company left a previous location at 435 Westgate Drive.

“Westgate Mall is pleased to announce that Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon and Carvel will now all be available in one shop within the center,” said Rebekah Macchia, marketing director at Westgate Mall. “Shoppers can enjoy a sweet or savory treat, warm baked goods, soft serve ice cream, lemonade and coffee, all from one location."
