Rape accused attempts suicide in Rajkot

RAJKOT: A rape accused attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after a woman lodged a rape complaint against him in Ashapura Nagar on Kotharia Road in Rajkot on Tuesday night.
Police said the accused, Deepak Al (28), collapsed after surrendering at Bhaktinagar police station. “We rushed Al to Rajkot Civil Hospital from where he gave his statement in which he pleaded innocence and claimed that he was falsely implicated in a rape case. Al said, though he knew the complainant, he never had any relationship with her,” said Narendra Bhadrecha, assistant sub-inspector with Bhaktinagar police station.
Al even expressed his readiness to undergo DNA test to prove his innocence.
Meanwhile, Rajkot A division police station has deployed its personnel at the hospital who will arrest Al once he is discharged.
