NEW DELHI: The finance ministry on Wednesday ordered all government departments and autonomous bodies to stop printing diaries, calendars, greeting cards and coffee table books as part of a cost-cutting measure, while asking the administrative ministries to advise public sector enterprises and banks also to follow the norms. It said that the world is increasingly moving towards digital tools to enhance productivity.
Although the overall cost of printing calendars and coffee table books is not available, the Bureau of Outreach and Communication, which brings out the calendar showcasing the government’s top plans, spends Rs 5-6 crore.
