Ravi Pujari case: Special court recalls three bail orders

MUMBAI: In a rare instance, a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Wednesday recalled three bail orders it had passed last month and directed the accused to surrender, reports Rebecca Samervel.
In August, in two separate cases of extortion by alleged gang members of extradited gangster Ravi Pujari, three accused were granted bail under a section CrPC which entitles an undertrial bail if he has been in jail for more than half of the period of maximum punishment prescribed for the crime.
Last week, the judge issued “urgent notices” initiating the procedure for recalling the order. The court reasoned, “While passing the order, the statutory provisions of imprisonment for offences punishable under MCOCA were not dealt with.”
