Representative imageTRICHY: A 48-year-old man was arrested in Pudukkottai on Wednesday for making social media posts against celebration of Independence Day. According to police, A Manikandan from Kamarajapuram of Pudukottai had posted a series of posts on August 15 against celebrating Independence Day on his Facebook page. The posts included a picture of the national flag set on fire.
On receiving complaints, Ganesh Nagar police verified his social media account and found the posts derogatory in nature. He was booked under five different sections including charges of causing insult to national honour.
Manikandan was booked under sections 153 (A), section 505 (i) (b), section 67 of IT Act 2000), section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Amendment Act 2003 and section 67 of IT Act 2000.
