Crews keep bushfire flames from bayside Brisbane homes

A quick response from fire crews has so far stopped a bushfire reaching homes on Brisbane's bayside on Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out in a reserve between Camille Crescent and Malabar Street in Wynnum West just after 1.30pm, with five crews still on the scene.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said nearby residents could be affected by smoke but there was no threat to property.

Footage showed some fire crews hosing down flames over the fence of neighbouring properties.

"Firefighters have contained the fire and are performing backburning operations," the spokesperson said.

"Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.
