The Energy Efficient Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Ministry of Power, has placed an order for 250 electric vehicles -- 150 units of the Nexon EV and 100 units of the Kona Electric -- from Tata Motors and Hyundai India. The order comes after the EESL shortlisted the SUVs based on performance, driving range and after-sales network.
The Kona Electric is Hyundai’s first all-electric SUV and it was also the first long-range EV launched in the country. Its electric motor develops 136PS and 395Nm, paired to a 39.2kWh battery pack that supports fast-charging with 0-80 percent in 57 minutes. The Kona Electric boasts an ARAI-claimed range of 452km. It is priced from Rs 23.76 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Tata Nexon EV’s electric motor, on the other hand, develops 129PS of power and 245Nm of torque. It’s paired to a 30.2kWh battery pack and has an ARAI-claimed range of 312km. The Nexon EV’s battery pack also supports fast-charging and can juice up from 0-80 percent in an hour. The Tata Nexon EV is priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
