Durai Murugan and TR Baalu to be DMK general secretary, treasurer

CHENNAI: DMK MLA and senior leader S Durai Murugan is set to be party’s general secretary while DMK parliamentary party leader T R Baalu will be its treasurer as there are no other contenders for the posts at the end of filing of nominations on Thursday evening.
They would be declared elected unopposed during the party’s general council meeting to be held on September 9 via videoconference, sources said. Party president M K Stalin would make the announcement, they said.
The DMK on Thursday initiated the process to elect a new general secretary and a treasurer. The post of general secretary has remained vacant since early March after the death of party veteran K Anbazhagan.
On Thursday, Durai Murugan submitted his resignation from the post of treasurer. He later filed his nomination papers for contesting for the general secretary post.
Following his resignation, the party initiated the process to elect a new treasurer. Baalu filed his papers to contest for the treasurer post.
The deadline to file nomination was 5pm. No one else filed nomination papers.
