FAKE ALERT: Photo of former Congress MLA shared to claim Hindu woman beaten by her Muslim husband

CLAIM
Facebook user Dinesh Singh posted an image to claim that a Hindu woman in Assam left her husband to marry and elope with a Muslim man Zakir Hussain and now she was being beaten by him. The photo shared by Singh is divided into two halves. The first half shows a happy-looking couple posing together, while the second half shows the same woman with bruises on her face.

TRUTH
The matter is from 2012 when a former Congress MLA Rumi Nath was beaten up by a mob in Assam's Karimganj. The mob was enranged with Rumi's second marriage and also beat up her husband Jakir.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Using relevant keywords, we found a video report dated July 2, 2012 from India Today. The report states that Rumi and her husband received injuries when they were attacked by a huge mob at a hotel in Karimganj. The report had the same image as the one shared above.
We also found a Times of India news report dated June 30, 2012. Titled 'Assam MLA and her second husband beaten upThe report stated that ', the report stated that Congress MLA Rumi Nath and her second husband Jaki Jakir, whom she married without divorcing her first husband, were beaten up and injured by a mob at Karimganj town

Times Fact Check has found that an old incident involving a former Congress MLA is being shared with false communal spin.
