Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 with foldable glass display launched

After the Galaxy Fold and Z Flip, Samsung has launched its third smartphone with a foldable display-- Galaxy Z Fold 2. Samsung is offering some productivity features of the Galaxy Note 20 series along with what the company claims is bigger cover display, better quality ultra-thin foldable glass inside with a punch hole for selfie camera and 5G support. Samsung has also added a new hinge that allows the phone to be used as a laptop that allows the display to be tilted at different angles.
One of the major improvements when compared to the Galaxy Fold is that the new Z Fold 2 comes with a full view 6.2-inch cover display instead of the small cover display on the older Fold. This means you are not required to unfold the display always.
The cover display(outside display when folded) measures 6.2-inch. It offers HD+ 2260 x 816 pixels resolution. It’s a Super AMOLED display with 25:9 aspect ratio and 386ppi pixel density. The main foldable display is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ (2208 x 1768 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display with an aspect ratio of 22.5:18 and 373ppi pixel density.
To increase the longevity of the device, Samsung is said to be using a new hinge design called sweeper that comes with elastic fibres to keep dust and other particles outside. Samsung has also reduced the thickness and the new hinge allows the device to stand at different angles. The device weighs 282 gram and is 1.7 cm thick when folded.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ processor with 12GB of RAM and 512GB internal storage. There’s another variant with 256GB storage as well.
There’s a 10MP selfie camera on the cover display as well with F2.2 aperture. Another selfie camera with the same specs is placed on the main foldable display too. At the back there’s a triple camera setup with 12MP ultra wide sensor, F2.2 aperture; 12MP wide-angle sensor with super speed dual pixel A/F, OIS and F1.8 aperture and another 12MP telephoto sensor with PDAF, F2.4 and OIS. It offers dual OIS, 0.5x out and 2x in optical zoom, Up to 10x digital zoom, HDR10+ recording, Tracking AF.
The device is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with fast charging and wireless reverse charging support. There’s a fingerprint scanner on the side with support for Samsung Pay. It’s a single SIM phone and has eSIM connectivity. There’s no microSD card slot.
As far as productivity features are concerned, Galaxy Z Fold 2 offers app continuity. While watching videos on the cover display, you can simply unfolded it to watch it on the bigger foldable display. On the Galaxy Z Fold 2, you can run three apps together on the main display. You can open Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel together on the same screen and drag-and-drop charts and other content between the two two apps. It also supports Samsung DeX.
