Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition Arriving Stateside With Nearly $45,000 Price Tag

The 2021 Honda Civic Type R is arriving at dealerships and the company has announced U.S. pricing will start at $37,495.

That’s $500 more than last year’s model, but there doesn’t appear to be any changes as the car carries “forward the numerous updates made to the 2020 Type R.”

However, the big news is the Civic Type R Limited Edition which is limited to just 600 units in the United States. It starts at $43,995 which makes it $6,500 more expensive than the standard model.

That’s a significant difference, but the Limited Edition has an exclusive Phoenix Yellow exterior with contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, mirrors and hood vent. Buyers will also find an individually numbered plaque on the center console.

The changes don’t stop there as the track-focused special edition weighs 46 lbs (20.9 kg) less than the standard Type R. As part of the diet, engineers equipped the car with lightweight BBS wheels which are wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires. The team also removed 28 lbs (12.7 kg) of sound deadening material, while also ditching the cargo cover, rear heater ducts and rear wiper mechanism.

Besides the aforementioned changes, the active damper system has been reprogrammed to “take full advantage of the lighter weight wheels and extra-grippy tires.” Likewise, the power steering system has been updated to account for the lighter wheels.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which produces 306 hp (228 kW /310 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

Note: Prices exclude a $955 destination and handling charge
