New Delhi: Coronavirus India Live Updates: A single-day spike of 78,357 cases has push India's coronavirus tally to 37,69,523, the Union Health Ministry data this morning showed. The death count has risen to 66,333 with 1,045 more fatalities.
29,01,908 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, pushing the recovery rate to 76.98 per cent.
Maharashtra remains the state hit hardest by the pandemic, with 8,08,306 COVID-19 cases, including 24,903 deaths. Maharashttra is followed by three southern states - Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil.
Delhi reported its highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases in nearly two months on Tuesday. The capital reported 2,312 fresh coronavirus cases and 18 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total to over 1.77 lakh.

Coronavirus news: Rajasthan reports 5 deaths, 690 new COVID-19 cases
Five deaths and 690 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Rajasthan on Wednesday, informed the State Health Department.
The Health Department also informed that 141 people recovered from the infection. At present, 68,265 people have recovered and 67,093 have been discharged.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 83,853, which includes 1,074 deaths.
The active cases of COVID-19 now stand at 14,514 in the state.
Coronavirus update: Mizoram reports 8 new COVID-19 casesEight new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the state tally to 1,020, informed Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Mizoram on Wednesday.
Out of the total, 610 patients have been discharged and at present, the active cases stand at 410.
No deaths have been reported so far from the infection in the state, ANI reported.
Coronavirus update: Colombia confirmed COVID-19 deaths top 20,000Confirmed deaths in Colombia due to COVID-19 topped 20,000 on Tuesday as cases surpassed 624,000, the health ministry said in its daily update.
The Andean country has so far reported 20,052 deaths and 624,069 cases of the novel coronavirus. Active cases stand at 133,155.
This week Colombia ended its initial quarantine measures after nearly five months of national lockdowns.
Coronavirus update: UAE reports over 500 new COVID-19 cases for second consecutive dayThe United Arab Emirates recorded over 500 new COVID-19 infections for the second successive day on Tuesday after a rise in cases in the Middle East financial hub.
The government's communications office said on Twitter there had been 574 new infections but no deaths in the previous 24 hours, following 541 new infections and two deaths reported a day earlier.
Coronavirus update: 54 per cent COVID-19 cases in 18-44 age group, 51 per cent deaths among those over 60 years, says Health MinistryFifty-four per cent of the total coronavirus cases in India were reported among people from 18 to 44 years of age while patients in 60 years and above bracket account for 51 per cent deaths, according to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
"54% COVID-19 cases are in the 18-44 years age group but 51% deaths are in the 60 years and above age group," the Ministry tweeted.
According to the Ministry, there are 8 per cent cases and 1 per cent deaths below 17 years of age.
Coronavirus update: Scotland bans household visits in Glasgow because of COVID-19
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced a ban on indoor household gatherings in Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, and two nearby areas on Tuesday following a rise in coronavirus cases.
Sturgeon said that from midnight (2300 GMT) the 800,000 residents living in Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire should no longer host people from outside their households indoors.
She said the transmission of the virus was mainly happening inside people's homes and the measures may be in place for two weeks. Schools, pubs and restaurants will continue to remain open.
Coronavirus update: Mainland China reports 8 new COVID-19 cases vs 10 a day earlierMainland China reported eight new COVID-19 cases as of Sept 1, down from 10 a day earlier, China's national health authority said on Wednesday.
The National Health Commission said in a statement all of the new COVID-19 cases were imported infections involving travellers from overseas, marking the 17th consecutive day with no local infections.
The number of new asymptomatic cases fell to 19 from 34 a day earlier. China does not count symptomless infections as confirmed cases.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in mainland China now stands at 85,066, while the death count remained unchanged at 4,634.

Coronavirus update: US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 183,050 coronavirus deaths
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday reported 6,004,443 cases of the coronavirus, an increase of 32,087 from its previous count, and said that the number of deaths had risen by 428 to 183,050.
The CDC reported its tally of cases of the respiratory illness known as COVID-19, caused by the coronavirus, as of 4 pm ET on Aug. 31 versus its previous report on Monday.
The CDC figures do not necessarily reflect cases reported by individual states.
Coronavirus news: Zimbabwe to reopen schools from September 14 for students taking final exams
Zimbabwe will reopen primary and secondary schools this month for students preparing to sit their final exams, six months after they were closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the government said on Tuesday.
The first students to return, on September 14, will be those taking Cambridge International exams. Those taking locally administered final exams will go back two weeks later.
Coronavirus update: Spain's daily COVID-19 infections retreat from peaks
Spain's health ministry said on Tuesday the number of coronavirus cases detected daily had declined over the past four days, further off a peak of around 10,000 reached about 10 days ago, and officials said no new lockdown was necessary.
The country diagnosed 2,731 infections in the past 24 hours, but these data could be revised in future as Spain updates its statistics retroactively, Reuters reported.
Coronavirus update: Coronavirus infection in Nepal enters community transmission phase, says Nepal Health Ministry
With growing cases of Covid-19 cases in Nepal, 12 districts in the country have entered the phase of community transmission, the Ministry of Health and Population said on Tuesday.
In a press briefing, the country's Public Health Advisor, Dr Suresh Tiwari said that Nepal has entered community transmission in 12 districts, including its capital Kathmandu.

Indian scientists have observed a higher association between asymptomatic COVID-19 cases and viral load, or the amount of virus in an infected person''s bodily fluid, in a study of over 200 patients with SARS-CoV-2 virus in Telangana, a "surprise" finding that may better inform the policymakers about the spread of the novel coronavirus infection.
The researchers, including those from the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad, advise testing asymptomatic primary and secondary contacts followed by surveillance.
