- Professor SM Akhtar, Head, Faculty of Architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has been appointed as the consultant architect for the mosque to be built in Ayodhya's Dhannipur village by the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) trust.
- The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board had created the IICF, a 15-member trust, for building a mosque and other facilities on the land allotted in Ayodhya by the Uttar Pradesh Government on the Supreme Court's instructions.

Trump administration sending rapid COVID tests to states, CDC bars evictions
- The Trump administration will send most of its newly purchased 150 million rapid COVID-19 tests to U.S. states for schools and critical services, a White House official said on Tuesday, as New York City pushed back reopening classrooms in a deal with union leaders.
- The moves came as The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday issued a sweeping order temporarily halting landlords across the nation from evicting millions of tenants in what it said was an effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai lead PV sales growth in August
- The industry estimates around 234,000 passenger vehicles were dispatched from factories last month, an about 20% increase compared with 195,800 units a year earlier.
- In August last year, the wholesale number had fallen almost 32% and that low base aided the year-on-year comparison for last month. The estimated sales for last month were 18% more than in July.
U.S. manufacturing activity strongest in nearly two years in August
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said on Tuesday its index of national factory activity increased to a reading of 56.0 last month from 54.2 in July. That was the highest level since November 2018 and marked three straight months of growth.
Japan's Suga expected to announce candidacy for PM race
- Japan's chief government spokesman, Yoshihide Suga, is set to announce on Wednesday his candidacy to lead the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and is heavily favoured to become prime minister, local media said.
- Suga has not yet declared he would run to succeed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who said last week he would resign. But Suga has privately indicated his intention to do so, a source has told Reuters.

- Motiva Enterprises plans for the largest U.S. crude oil refinery to return to making motor fuels by Sept. 11 following restart from a complete shutdown, said sources familiar with plant operations on Tuesday.
- Motiva has restored utilities ahead of starting up production units at its 607,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, which was shut on Aug. 25 when Hurricane Laura menaced the U.S. Gulf Coast.
