Vakeel Saab motion posterVakeel Saab is the remake of 2016 Hindi movie Pink.

A motion poster of upcoming film Vakeel Saab was released on Wednesday to commemorate the 49th birthday of Pawan Kalyan. The actor is playing the lead role in the Sriram Venu directorial.

The motion poster begins with the image of Mahatma Gandhi, and then it pans over to the image of B R Ambedkar. And then the focus moves to Pawan Kalyan, who is standing in a courtroom, with a baseball stick in one hand and a criminal law book on the other. It seems he takes the carrot and stick approach, when it comes to upholding the law and the ideals of our founding fathers.

Vakeel Saab is the official Telugu remake of Bollywood hit Pink (2016). It tackles the subject of consent and a woman’s right to say “no”. The original film had Amitabh Bachchan as an aged lawyer, who was burdened by emotional issues of his past. And in the Telugu remake, Pawan plays the saviour in black robes. Before Sri Venkateswara Creations picked up the Telugu remake rights, Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor bankrolled Pink’s Tamil remake Nerkonda Paarvai with Ajith in the lead role.

The Tamil remake was helmed by young director H Vinoth, who stayed loyal to the original sober version, with some extra tadka to meet the approval of the core fanbase of a mass hero like Ajith. But, it remained a story about the prejudice, dangers and stigma that independent girls faced in urban areas. And it was not entirely about Ajith’s heroism.

However, it could be different in the Telugu remake. All the promotional material so far has not put any focus on the three female characters, who are the beating heart of the story. Only Pawan Kalyan has dominated the first look posters, suggesting that Vakeel Saab is more a conventional story about a righteous man saving three damsels in distress.
