Urgent warning for dog owners after a six-month-old chocolate labrador puppy called Coco is bashed to death in her backyard while her owner is at work

A six-month-old chocolate labrador named Coco has died after she was found with a fractured skull in the backyard when her horrified owner returned from work.

Coco's owner returned to their house in Cobbadah Place in Freshwater in Sydney's Northern Beaches on Tuesday afternoon to find the puppy unresponsive.

The labrador was rushed to the vet after being found laid across the garden, but later died from her devastating head injuries.

X-rays confirmed Coco had a damaged skull as NSW Police investigate the death.

Dog owners have been warned about the incident and police are urging the public to come forward with any information.

RSPCA NSW has been contacted for comment.
