Log leaders Kaizer Chiefs moved to within touching distance of a record-setting Absa Premiership title with a 1-0 win over Chippa United at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

Khama Billiat grabbed the decisive goal in the 9th minute when his sliding attempt found the back of the net after Samir Nurkovic's near-post header.

Chiefs were handed a scare just before the break when defender Daniel Cardoso headed the ball off the line after an on-rushing Itumeleng Khune was caught in no-man's land.

Chippa were reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute when Tercious Malepe was shown a straight red card for bringing down Billiat just outside the area, with the Zimbabwean bearing down on goal.

Chiefs were also given a lifeline late in the game after Chippa had converted from a corner-kick only for a free-kick to be awarded for a foul on Khune, who seemed to have tripped over a team-mate.

Chippa were further reduced to nine men in the 87th minute when Elvis Moyo was shown a red card for a dangerous tackle.

Ernst Middendorp's side now move to within 90 minutes of claiming a record 13th title moving into the final week of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Chiefs face Baroka FC in their final match of the season on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
