COIMBATORE: As pictures of a leopard cage being placed in Madukkarai on the outskirts of Coimbatore began circulating on social media, the forest department on Wednesday assured residents that there was no leopard movement in the area.
People were scared because a couple of stray dogs had gone missing, officials said
They said a cage brought to capture a leopard three months ago, when a few goats went missing, was moved to Vinayakar Kovil Street near the fringes.
The officials said they had got the cage three months ago and kept it in Gandhinagar with a prey. However, the leopard was never caught.
“This cage is now placed at Vinayagar Koil Street which houses the Dharmalingeshwari Temple. But it does not mean that there is a leopard sighting or movement. We are all focusing on elephants only which stray into the area,” said Madukkarai forest range officer Srinivasan.
