BOSTON --- The Red Sox have placed left-hander Kyle Hart (left hip impingement) on the 10-day injured list.
Hart worked two innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday’s 10-3 loss to Atlanta. He was tagged for seven hits and six earned runs, including a pair of homers by Marcell Ozuna.
Hart appeared to tweak the hip on a tapper back to the mound in the seventh. He came in and made an athletic play on the throw to first, spinning and delivering accurately. Hart came back out for the eighth and allowed five straight hits in one stretch, including a three-run blast over the bleachers in center by Ozuna.
Hart was a feel-good story when he made his debut on Aug. 13, as the former 19th round selection from Indiana in the 2016 draft beat the odds to reach the big leagues. Hart has been hit hard in four outings, pitching to a 15.55 earned-run average and allowing 24 hits in 11 innings. He was taken out of the rotation last week.
Boston recalled right-hander Andrew Triggs from the alternate site at Pawtucket to take Hart’s place on the roster. Triggs was claimed off waivers from the Giants on Aug. 19 and has pitched to a 4.68 ERA in 46 career games.
