No Indian soldiers killed in recent border clash, says China
"As far as I know, no Indian soldiers were killed in the recent border clash," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying was quoted by state-run Global Times as saying. She claimed that India "violated" consensus on the western section of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Border tension: India, China hold another round of Brigade Commander-level talks
Days after China's "provocative actions" in Pangong lake area in eastern Ladakh, the situation in the region remained sensitive on Wednesday while army commanders from both sides held another round of talks to defuse tensions, government sources said. The army of the two countries held Brigade Commander-level talks in Chushul with a focus on bringing down tensions in the Pangong lake area, they said, adding similar dialogue on Monday and Tuesday, each lasting over six hours, did not produce any "tangible outcome".
No meeting with Chinese counterpart in defence minister Rajnath Singh's schedule. He is leaving for Moscow today to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting: ANI quoting sources
The PLA is also testing Indian deployments at a few places along the 1,597-km frontier in eastern Ladakh, stretching north to south from Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO)-Depsang, Galwan, Hot Springs, Pangong Tso, Chushul, Demchok and Chumar sectors. On Tuesday, for instance, several PLA vehicles came close to the LAC in the Chumar sector but there was no attempt to intrude, said an officer.
The Chinese army brass is furious at the way PLA has been checkmated by the Indian Army’s pro-active military manoeuvre to occupy multiple heights near the southern bank of Pangong Tso, Rezang La, Reqin La and Spanggur Gap on August 29-30.
The fresh PLA attempt took place when the rival brigade commanders were holding a flag meeting at the Chushul-Moldo border personnel meeting point on Monday morning in a bid to de-escalate tensions in the area where rival troops, tanks and other heavy weapon systems are ranged against each other.
The aggressive designs of the PLA to unilaterally alter the status quo of the LAC were, however, foiled this time too by “defensive actions” undertaken by the Indian soldiers, said officials.
India further strengthens presence in southern bank area of Pangong lake: Sources
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday carried out a comprehensive review of the situation in eastern Ladakh in the wake of China's "provocative" military maneuvers to change the status quo in the southern bank area of Pangong lake. It was decided at the nearly two-hour meeting that Indian Army will continue to maintain its aggressive posturing in all sensitive areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) to effectively deal with any Chinese "misadventure", official sources said. They said the Indian Army has further bolstered its presence around the Southern Bank area of Pangong lake by deploying additional troops and bringing in more weaponry including tanks and anti tank guided missiles.
Indian security forces on Tuesday foiled an attempt by the Chinese Army to transgress into the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control in the general area of Chumar in Eastern Ladakh.
"On the night of August 29/30, PLA troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo," said Army spokesperson Colonel Aman Anand in a statement on Monday.
Brigade commander level talks were held on Tuesday as well.
A meeting of the brigade commander of the Indian Army with his Chinese counterpart is scheduled to be held at 10 am in Chushul/Moldo on Wednesday to discuss issues related to the situation on the southern bank of Pangong lake, Indian Army sources said.
This comes after the Indian Army thwarted an attempt by the Chinese Army to transgress into Indian areas near the southern bank of Pangong Tso near Chushul in Ladakh on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
