New Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar takes charge!

The new Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar took charge on Tuesday. Former Finance Secretary Mr. Kumar has been appointed as the new Election Commissioner in place of Mr. Ashok Lavasa.


Significantly, Mr. Lavasa resigned a few days ago and he was appointed as the Vice President of the Asian Development Bank in Manila. Mr. Kumar has been a 1984 batch IAS officer and has held top positions in various ministries of the Central Government besides Bihar and Jharkhand. Mr. Kumar has also been the Chairman of the Public Enterprises Appointment Board.

He has been appointed Election Commissioner after retiring as Finance Secretary.

Born on February 19, February 1960, Mr. Kumar has held high positions in the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Ministry of Forests, and Banking, besides the Ministry of Finance. In this way, he has served for 36 years. He is also deeply interested in music.
