Pune: The Ujani dam, which important for ensuring water supply for agricultural and drinking purpose to Pune, Solapur and Nagar districts, is now 100 per cent full. The dam has 117 TMC water stock of which 53 TMC is useful to water storage.

The Ujani dam and catchment area also received heavy rainfall this year. However, farmers and industries in Pune, Solapur and Nagar districts were looking forward to Ujani dam getting full to ensure water supply for the entire year. Ujani dam water storage crossed the dead stock limit and useful water storage started on July 18 this year. Since then, the water level in the dam has been rising at a slower but regular rate over the past month and a half. It is raining heavily in the western part of Pune district.

Also, almost all the dams in the Bhima basin are one hundred per cent full. These dams started discharging a large amount of water into the river Bhima. Discharge of water in Ujani dam started from Daund at 23,819 cusecs on Sunday (August 30). The water level in Ujani dam rose to 496.87 on Monday (August 31) afternoon. Currently, the dam has a total capacity of 117 TMC water, out of which 53 TMC is useful to water storage.

Ujani Dam is considered a boon for Pune, Solapur and Nagar districts. Sugarcane growers in the area have expressed satisfaction over the 100 per cent filling of the dam. For the second year in a row, the Ujani dam is 100 per cent full in August. Due to heavy rains in the Bhima basin from the very beginning of the current year, a large number of Adsali sugarcane has been planted in these areas. Now that the dam is at full capacity, there will be enough water available for the crops due to which farmers are happy.
