Cops at Noida border to stop entry of superbikes

Noida: With superbike riders resorting to racing on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway during the weekends, the Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police has decided to nip the problem in the bud by not allowing entry to these bikers inside Noida.
TOI had reported about superbike riders from Delhi and Gurgaon entering Noida and racing on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway. Dozens of bikers in full gear start reaching Noida-Delhi borders from as early as 5am, including from the Chilla and the DND Flyway, on Sunday also.
However, this time, they were greeted by traffic police deployed at the borders who asked all the bikers to return. Traffic cops were also posted at the Zero point of the Yamuna Expressway.
Traffic inspector Ashutosh Singh told TOI that teams of police were strategically deployed from 4am on the Chilla, DND and Zero Point and all superbikes were made to return. He added, “Since the implementation of weekend lockdown in UP, these bikers were told not to enter the state. Around 60-70 of these bikers tried to enter from the Chilla border while around 25-35 tried to enter from the DND Flyway. They started coming from 5am and the last batch was spotted at 8am. We tried to ensure that even if they manage to enter, they shouldn’t be let go without a challan.”
He added bikers gave all sorts of excuses to enter Noida. “While some claimed that they were going towards Greater Noida, others said they wanted to take the Agra Expressway,” he said.
As many as 30 traffic cops led by traffic sub inspectors were deployed at the borders and they warned the bikers not to return. Cops said that around 70% of the bikes had Delhi number plates followed by Haryana number plates while a few of them had UP number plates too.
Sources said that the police had to resort to this method as it was becoming impossible to issue challans. "They zoom anywhere between 100 and 200 kmph speed and it is not possible for cameras to read their number plates. The drive will continue till they stop racing,” a source said.
