Mumbai: Retired naval officer duped of Rs 50,000

MUMBAI: A retired Indian Navy captain was duped of Rs 50,000 after money from his bank account was fraudulently transferred to another account.
His email account was hacked and instructions sent to his bank for the transfer. An offence has been registered at Gamdevi police station.
The police said that the 70-year-old Altamount Road resident had authorised his bank to act on his emails for bank transactions. The bank verified with him before debiting his account.
On August 18, Rs 50,500 was debited without verification by the bank due to staff shortage. The police said that the money was transferred belongs to a company in Delhi.
