Krishna Chandra DasBEHRAMPORE: More than a month after Chandernagore deputy magistrate Debadutta Roy succumbed to Covid, the disease has claimed the life of another WBCS officer and block development officer (BDO) of Murshidabad’s Nowda. Krishna Chandra Das, 51, passed away on Sunday night.
Das had fever from August 4 and his swab sample was taken on August 6. After the report came positive, he was admitted to Behrampore Matrisadan Covid hospital on August 8. He was shifted to a private hospital in Kolkata the next day after developing acute respiratory distress.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolence to the Das family, friends and colleagues on Twitter. Banerjee referred to his death as an “irreparable loss” and described Das as “a dedicated WBCS officer at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19 who displayed a great sense of sincerity and commitment to his work in the pandemic situation”.
Das, who was originally from Joynagar, is survived by his wife Malati, two daughters and a son.
“My husband had respiratory problems due to asthma and underwent surgery for a tumor in his head about one-and-a-half years ago. He also had high pressure and diabetes,” Malati said.
Sudipta Porel, additional district magistrate (zilla parishad), said, “As a frontline Covid warrior, Das tried to make people aware of the need to wear masks and adopt other preventive measures. We express condolence to the bereaved family members.”
