Lebohang 'Cheeseboy' Mokoena struggled to contain his delight after helping guide Swallows FC to the Absa Premiership.

A 3-0 win on the final day of the GladAfrica Championship season against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila saw the Dube Birds secure automatic promotion.

Title-chasing Ajax Cape Town also won 3-0, against Mbombela United, but ultimately ended in second place on the league standings, over a one-goal, goal-difference.

Mokoena, who has previously played for Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax, admitted it was a dream to return to the South African top-flight.

The Swallows captain was reported on IOL website as saying: "For me it's just a moment that I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

"And I'll remain grateful that God gave me this opportunity because a lot of people wrote me off and said, 'Cheeseboy will never play football again'.

"But I told myself that I am not here for the love of money but the passion that God has given me. So, praise be to Him. I'd also like to be thankful for the support that I’ve received from my family, wife and kids."
