The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main) 2020 began on Tuesday at various centers across the country. Approximately 1 million candidates are appearing for this examination that will continue till September 6. The engineering examination has started after weeks of protests and political scuffle between BJP and Opposition parties. A petition was also filed in the Supreme Court of India to postpone the Neet-JEE Exams. 

Nearly 63,000 candidates are appearing for JEE Mains 2020 in Bihar. There are 43 centers for these candidates across seven cities of Bihar. These include Patna, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Purnia, Darbhanga, and Bhojpur. 

Maximum 20 examination centers have been set up in the capital Patna. Six exams centers in Muzaffarpur, Five in Darbhanga and Gaya, Four in Bhagalpurand two each in Purnia and Bhojpur. 

JEE Mains exams are being held under strict Covid-19 protocol. The centers have been equipped with thermal screening and sanitizer. Announcements are being made outside each exam centers to ensure the necessary protocol is being followed by each candidate and exam authorities. 

Earlier, Several opposition leaders including Congress' Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, her Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik, DMK President MK Stalin, and Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had demanded that the exams be postponed. The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the two exams amid a spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases, saying a "precious year" of students cannot be wasted and life has to go on.
