Former President Pranab Mukherjee laid to rest with full military honours. Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India and Bharat Ratna, passed away at 84 after battling a long illness, on Monday. PM Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat on Tuesday paid their last respects to the former late President. Former president Pranab Mukherjee, statesman, scholar and one of India’s most respected leaders across the political spectrum, died on Monday evening. The former prez died following a 21-day battle with multiple ailments. Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to hospital on August 10 and had surgery the same day for the removal of a clot in the brain. He developed a lung infection and a renal dysfunction over the past few days, according to doctors. The former president was 84. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
