A 47-year-old Candolim resident who was staying at Mandrem with his relative was brought dead to the Siolim primary health centre on Tuesday. A swab test was conducted where the deceased tested positive for COVID-19.
Confirming the COVID death, Dr Sadhana Shetye said, “One person from Mandrem was brought dead to the PHC and we performed a swab test on the deceased which was found COVID positive. Accordingly I have informed the health officer of Pernem and Candolim and also deputy collector and mamlatdar and completed all process. The body was handed over to family for final rites”.
She further informed, “The patient was having some breathing problems and consulted a private doctor for the last three days”.
Health officials informed that the patient was suffering from autoimmune hemolytic anemia and was on steroids.
Meanwhile health officials from Pernem has begun testing of the deceased contacts wherein five tested positive and more testing will be done on Wednesday.
Besides one death, 17 new COVID positive cases were reported on Tuesday wherein six cases were reported at Canca, six at Assagao and three at Siolim.
